This Day in History: 1101-05-02

(2 May) The Siege of Caesarea began during the First Crusade. The Fatimid-ruled city (Caesarea) surrendered after a 15-day-long siege on 17 May. The cruelest massacre took place in the Great Mosque where many of the citizens had taken refuge and begged for mercy. But they were butchered, men and women alike, by the Crusaders.
