- 1885 (141 years ago) (20 May) King Faisal I of Iraq was born in Makkah, Hejaz Vilayet, Ottoman Empire. He was the third son of Hussein bin Ali, the Grand Sharif of Mecca. Faisal headed the Northern Army of the rebellion that confronted the Ottomans during the Arab Revolt (1916-1918).

- 1290 (736 years ago) (20 May) Islamic preacher and Sufi, Sayyid Jalaluddin Bukhari, passed away in Uch, Delhi Sultanate (located in present-day Pakistan) in 1290. He was born in Bukhara in 1195.
- 1622 (404 years ago) (20 May) The Ottoman Sultan Genç Osman or Osman II was murdered by rebellious & politically motivated soldiers, believed to have been associated with the 65th Janissary regiment. At the age of just 14 in 1618, he became the sultan of an empire, which was spread over three continents.
