(7 March) The Ottoman-Venetian War of 1570-1573 finally ended with the Ottoman conquest of Cyprus. Venice signed a peace treaty with the Ottomans on March 7, 1573, accepting the loss of Cyprus and increasing its annual tribute payments in return for continued commercial privileges in Sultan Selim II’s domains.
