(10 March) The Ottoman authorities had to evacuate Baghdad to avoid encirclement from the British, enabling them to take it without resistance on 11 March. Only a single brigade was left at Baghdad, while the commander Halil Pasha had to lead the main Ottoman forces into Iran to help the Germans there.
