(10 December) The siege of the Ottoman-Bulgarian town of Plevna ended with the Russian victory. The siege of Plevna began on July 20 and lasted for five months. At its height, it involved more than 120,000 troops* (84,000 Russian, 36,000 Ottoman). Gazi Osman Pasha led the Ottomans.
