This Day in History: 1293-12-14

(14 December) The eighth Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Khalil bin Qalawun was assassinated by his Emirs while he was hunting. Sultan al-Ashraf is known for his reconquest of the Crusader capital of Acre in 1291. He reconquered all the remaining Crusader strongholds and put an end to the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
