(26 March) Salah al-Din was appointed as the Vizier to the Fatimid caliph in Cairo. He succeeded his uncle Shirkuh as the new vizier of the Fatimid caliphate. This gave him the opportunity to employ his military, administrative, and diplomatic skills in both unifying Syria and in his wars against the Crusader states.
