(19 March) The first Ottoman Parliament officially opened during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II with an elaborate ceremony held in the reception hall of the Dolmabahce Palace attended by all the ministers, notables, and representatives as well as foreign dignitaries. The Ottoman parliament was bicameral.
