21 May 878	Battles & Sieges	(21 May) The Siege of Syracuse (877–878) ended with the Aghlabid victory. The city of Syracuse was the Byzantine capital of Sicily. In August 877, they besieged Syracuse under the command of an energetic governor, Jafar ibn Muhammad.
21 May 1829	Deaths	(21 May) The third Nizam of Hyderabad, Sikander Jah, Asaf Jah III, passed away at the age of 61. He ruled from 1803 to 1829.
