8 July 1716	Battles & Sieges	(8 July) The Ottoman troops began landing on the Greek island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea in order to hold the siege. It was the most important of the Ionian islands. The Ottoman fleet was met by a Venetian fleet, commanded by Andrea Cornaro.
