2 November 682	Births	(2 November) The eighth Umayyad caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz was born in Medina. Umar was a pious and fair ruler. Therefore, he is often called one of the pious caliphs (Rashidun Khalifa).
2 November 971	Births	(2 November) The first independent ruler of the Ghaznavid dynasty Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi was born in Ghazni, Samanid Empire (present-day Afghanistan). He was the son of Sabuktigin who was the slave of Alptigin, a Turkic slave commander of the Samanid Empire.
2 November 1214	Battles & Sieges	(2 November) The Seljuq Sultan of Rum Kaykaus I began the Siege of Sinope, then held by the Empire of Trebizond (now in Turkey). The Emperor of Trebizond could not defend the city. Therefore, the city of Sinope fell to the Seljuks (Seljuqs).
